7th September 2024 : The Open Arms North Wraxall - Community Hall 

The inaugural North Wraxall Pop Up Pub offering a selection of locally sourced craft beer, selection of drinks and bar snacks.  BYO picnic and umbrella.  Proceeds go to the Community Hall.

15th June 2024 : Village Family Pizza Night at the Community Hall

 

The annual Village Pizza night returns with artisan pizzas from Bianco Rosso Pizza Co and a licensed bar offering a wide selection of drinks.    More details to follow.

18th April 2024 : The Famous Five Book Club - St James Church - 7.30pm

The book chosen for discussion is Bel Canto by Ann Patchett.  For further information please refer to the 'Clubs and Societies' section of the website.

4th - 5th May 2024 : Pop Up Cafe at the Community Hall

The North Wraxall Pop up Cafe returns offering a wonderful selection of cakes, coffee, tea along with freshly prepared breakfast and lunch options.

North Wraxall Film Society - Community Hall - 7.30pm

'Waking Ned Devine' - 1998 comedy with Ian Bannen and James Nesbitt.

Entrance is £5 per person including light refreshments.  For further information please refer to the 'Clubs and Societies' section of the website.

Inter-Village Quiz - Community Hall

Hosted by the soggy bottoms.  Prize and trophy for the winners.  £5 per person to include light supper. Please bring your own drinks.

Safari Supper 

A fun evening involving good food, good wine and, of course, great company!  Everyone meets at a nominated location for Fizz and canapés, where you will be allocated your main meal and pudding hosts, then everyone meets up again at the end of the evening for coffee and nightcaps. A charge of £20 per person is made as contributions are given to residents who kindly volunteer to host.

Gin Tasting Evening - Community Hall

Gin has enjoyed renewed popularity in the past few years and there are so many varieties that we thought we would ask Tristan Darby of Great Western Wine to come and share some of his favourites.

Italian Theme Spring Supper - Community Hall

Marj Lang is an experienced chef and her love of food led her to win Masterchef in 2000. Designing menus using seasonally available foods & adding wine to enhance the flavours is both fun and creative. Sharing food with friends promotes health and wellbeing and we wanted to offer this evening to gather friends and neighbours together, we also hope to raise some funds for the up-keep of the village hall.

Parish Party - Pop up Pub & BBQ

This year the Community Hall’s ‘summer’ party is going off-site to Maggs Farm, Mountain Bower, generously hosted by Sarah & Phillip Betts. There will be a BBQ and pay bar and various fun activities. With plenty of parking on site, the party starts from 12.30pm.

Summer Concert - St James Church

Take 5 & RUH Choirs and solo musical performances.  Julie Payne and the Take 5 choir committee have organised what will again be a summer evening of fantastic singing and individual musical performances. A warm summer’s evening is guaranteed!

Christmas Wreath Workshop - Community Hall

Following on from the very enjoyable and successful Spring Flowers Workshop a Christmas Wreath Workshop is being organised for December.

The event will be run by our local florist at the Community Hall. All material and tuition will be provided and mince pies and mulled wine will help the evening flow!

Carols on the Green

Our traditional Christmas gathering round the pond in Upper Wraxall. Mulled wine & hot chocolate available – all welcome.

Harvest Festival - Community Hall

Harvest Festival lunch in the village hall to take place after the Harvest service. A seasonal harvest lunch prepared by Marj Lang and helpers will take place in the village hall after the Harvest Festival service.

Silent Film & Live Piano - Community Hall

Our annual Silent Film & Live Piano evening will be held at the Community Hall on 13th October. The film this year is TBA. and piano will be played by the excellent Martin Lowe. These old B&W films are very cleverly made for their time and the evenings prove popular and entertaining. Tickets are £7.50pp to include a chilli supper, BYO drink.

Community Curry Lunch - Community Hall

Geoff & Marj Lang are again very generously sponsoring and organising the biennial Curry Lunch (for charity) at the Community Hall on Sunday 6th January 2019. An excellent event with delicious food and a great way to kick off the New Year. Last year the event raised nearly £1000 for charity, as people expressed their appreciation.

St James Christmas Carol Concert

On 23rd December St James Church will hold their Christmas Concert, joined by the Take 5 Choir. Always an enjoyable event, the singing soars in the excellent acoustics of the church. Mince pies and mulled wine will be served after the concert. Tickets: Free

WW1 Celebration Lunch

On Sunday 11th November 2018, it is the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War (Armistice Day). In August 2014 we, as a community, commemorated the start of WW1 and in November this year we intend to remember and celebrate the end of the War.

 

 

There will be a special Remembrance Day service at St James Church (starting at 10.50am), followed by lunch at the Community Hall at 12.30. 

‘The Roaring Fork’ wind ensemble

Organised by Nicky Russell, ‘The Roaring Fork’ Wind Ensemble will perform at St James Church on Sunday 23rd September at 6pm. This outstanding Ensemble will bring a new dimension to the music experienced so far at St James. It’s an early 6pm start with a refreshment interval. 

Take 5 Choir Summer Concert

Our annual Summer Concert takes place on Saturday 14th July in St James Church, North Wraxall. Doors open at 7pm; the concert starts at 7.30pm.  This year we join with the RUH Choir and together with the soloists we will perform classical, jazz, folk and rock music.

 

 

 

Royal Wedding Community Celebration

 

To celebrate the forthcoming wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Upper Wraxall Pond Committee and the Community Hall are holding a joint community party on the Upper Wraxall Green.  This will be a free event. There will be tea and squash and the Royal Couple will be toasted with (Prosecco provided) at 3.30pm. In addition, villages are asked to bring celebration cakes to be cut and shared for the toast. On the Green will be a crown-making stall and game stalls and children are encouraged to come in fancy dress. Finally, subject to weather conditions, please bring picnics with you to stay on the Green and extend the day. 

 

 

Wine Tasting & Food Matching

Following on from last year’s very interesting and enjoyable wine tasting, our second Wine Tasting Evening will include complementary canapes provided by Marj Lang and Kim Mercer. Tristan Darby, from Great Western Wine, Bath, will again provide an exciting selection of wines, explain how to properly taste wine and give supplier details. Matching food to wine will be explained throughout the evening.

Spring Flower Arranging Workshop

The Spring Flower Arranging Workshop will take place at the Community Hall just in time for the Easter weekend. All flowers and materials will be provided and you will be given expert tuition by Maria Hollis.

The Vida Guitar Quartet

The Vida Guitar Quartet is the foremost guitar quartet in the country, with an international reputation and following. After years of trying we are delighted to announce that they are coming to St James’ Church, North Wraxall on Saturday 17th February to perform for us.

'Words and Music'

‘Words & Music’ is an evening event with members of our community and their friends reading a wide range of prose and poems, interlaced with music, humour, food and wine. It should be fun.  In addition to readers (some will be original poems), the Take Five Choir will be singing at the beginning of the event, and a duo and some mixed groupings will perform music throughout the evening. ‘Love’, ‘humour’ and ‘words I like’ are the evening’s themes.

Do you have a glut of apples each year?  Well this year why not bring them along to our Apple Day event on Sunday 4th October.

Music for a Summer's Evening

The duo, Nicky Russell (flute) and Alison Smith (guitar), share a wealth of musical experience and we are delighted that they are to perform here for the first time. 

 

Be transported by the complementary tones of these instruments and you will be taken on an exciting musical journey from eighteenth century Europe through to twentieth century Latin America. 

Take Five Choir Summer Concert

We are presenting our concert again this year in conjunction with the RUH choir and hope to have a lovely selection of music for your enjoyment.

 

Parish Council Annual Parish Meeting

Commencing at 7.00pm, the Parish Council Annual Parish Meeting is a celebration of everything that goes on in the Parish and an invitation is extended to all the clubs, societies and organisations to come along and have a stand or table to promote their activities.

Parish Walk & BBQ

This year’s PARISH WALK starts at 10.00am prompt from the Community Hall. It is seven miles on local lanes, across fields, over streams, through woodland, including two hills, from the hall to North Wraxall, to Ford, into Castle Combe, up Truckle Hill via North Wraxall to finish at the Hall....
